Bulgaria's Population Shrinks by 36% till 2050
Date: 04-Mart-2006

Much of what is called the western world will not survive this century, and much of it will effectively disappear within our lifetimes, including many if not most western European countries, US magazine "The New Criterion" wrote.

Bulgaria's population is among the fastest shrinking in Europe and is to go down by 36% by 2050. Italy's will have fallen by 22% and Estonia's by 52%.

In America, demographic trends suggest that the blue states ought to apply for honorary membership of the EU: in the 2004 election, John Kerry won the sixteen with the lowest birth rates; George W. Bush took twenty-five of the twenty-six states with the highest, forecasts "The New Criterion".

According to its estimates by 2050, there will be 100 million fewer Europeans, 100 million more Americans.
