During the first quarter of 2013 the average salary has decreased by 3.1% to 778 BGN as compared to the fourth quarter of 2012, according to preliminary NSI data.

Preliminary data of NSI for the Fourth Quarter of 2012 indicated that the total hourly labour cost rose by 5.1% compared to the Fourth Quarter of 2011.

Private sector salaries to rise 13%

12.9% is the recommended pay rise in the private sector for 2007, upon which trade unions and employers agreed on 3 July. The business community agreed to higher pay rise in a trade off for the support of the trade unions for a cut in the social security contribution rate. If a 3% cut is achieved by 1 October, employers promised to add 2% of it to the index of increase. Budget-subsidised monthly salaries were revised upwards by 10% from 1 July.

The unprecedented agreement was negotiated by the two biggest trade union amalgamations, Podkrepa and CITUB, and local business representative organisations.
