According to the preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) at the end of March 2012 the number of employees under labour contract decreased by 27.9 thousands or 1.3% as compared to the end of December 2011 and reached 2.10 million.

National Statistical Institute observations on the labour force in Bulgaria during the April – June period of the current year show that the unemployed in the country number 237.8 thousand people, or 6.8% of the economically active people in Bulgaria. The unemployed men add up to 125.3 thousand, while the female part of the unemployed population numbers 52.7% of all unemployed. The number of unemployed between the ages of 15 and 64 is 236.8 thousand, while the coefficient of unemployment among the same age range is 6.9%. The number of unemployed between the ages of 15 and 24 is 36 thousand, and the coefficient of unemployment among the youths is 12.6%.
